- Ky nam is a special resinous wood formed in heartwood of Aquilaria crassna Pierre ex Lecomte only, but very rare (only 1/1000 100-year old Aquilaria crassna tree may give Ky nam and only in five regions of Vietnam: Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Kontum, cannot find Ky nam in other places of Vietnam). Aquilaria crassna Pierre ex Lecomte exists only in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand in which Vietnam is the original cradle. To differentiate Kynam and normal Agarwood, please refer to www.scribd.com/doc/26510562. Vietnamese Kynam hunters casually found Kynam in some ancient tree (even 200-year old) of Aquilaria crassna Pierre ex Lecomte. A number of Kynam hunters already died in deep forests. Kynam hunter’s life is stained in blood and tear. See www.scribd.com/doc/26510203
- Ky nam spirit is a product of solvent extraction (to steep Ky nam chips in high quality glutinous rice spirit).
- As regards medical effect & applications of Kynam: please refer to “New sesquiterpene from Vietnamese agarwood and its induction effect on brain-derived neurotrophic factor mRNA expression in vitro” studied by Jun-ya Uedaa, Lisa Imamurab, Yasuhiro Tezukaa, Quan L. Thank you Mr Dinh for the input,

I am also told that when people go deep into the jungle to look for agarwood, sometimes for many days. And by eating/chewing some of the agarwood they will keep themselves warm from the jungle cold. The agarwood act as a stimulant and are used in many circumstances as a medicine. How true is this?

Does all agarwood species has medicinal properties and can be eaten raw.

Kynam agarwood doesn't exclusively originate from Vietnam; it's not tied to a particular species. Instead, "kynam" is often used to describe any species of agarwood that is dense with resinous oil. While agarwood is recognized for its potential medicinal properties, it's essential to note that not all agarwood varieties carry the same medicinal value. The medicinal properties can vary depending on factors such as the species of agarwood, the presence of certain compounds, and the methods of extraction and preparation. Therefore, it's crucial to research and understand the specific properties of each type of agarwood before attributing medicinal value to it.
